This article summarises and outlines how GICS codes map to NACE Codes
NACE codes are classification systems used to track the activities undertaken by businesses. These codes are organised into a four-level hierarchical structure. The highest-level categories are called sections. The first two digits of the code indicate the division, the third digit indicates the group, and the fourth digit indicates the class.
Each NACE code is composed of 4 digits:
- The first two digits together represent the division.
- The first three digits together represent the group.
- All four digits together represent the class.
Here is Wiserfunding’s NACE code to make it easier to understand:
Division 70 - Activities of head offices; management consultancy activities
Group 702 - Management consultancy activities
Class 7022 - Business and other management consultancy activities
GICS codes, are a widely recognised classification system used to categorise companies and their activities into sectors and industries. The GICS structure is designed to facilitate the investment research process and investment decision making.
Each GICS code is composed of 8 digits:
- The first 2 digits indicate the sector.
- The next 2 digits indicate the industry group.
- The following 2 digits indicate the industry.
- The last 2 digits indicate the sub-industry.
Here is Wiserfunding’s GICS code as an example: 20202020
